UC Davis Test for Agouti. Genetic discussion of Agouti
(bay / black) gene horses: The Agouti gene restricts black hair to the points,
that is, the agouti gene makes a black horse into a bay horse. That is why
it takes a black horse to express the agouti gene. A sorrel horse has no
way to exhibit the absence or presence of the agouti gene, therefore it is
impossible to know if a chestnut or sorrel carries the agouti gene w/o genetic
testing, OR, knowing it produced a bay when bred to a black.
Now, could someone please tell us the proper pronunciation
of this word? I would like to document that here.

Count Me Tough AQHA
and Straw Skip H APHA registered. He has been UC Davis tested ee,AA,CrCr.
He is sorrel based & homozyous for the creme & agouti gene - he produces
only palomino and buckskin foals. Tuff has 30+ foals on the ground and all
are shades of palomino and buckskin. Tuff is double registered in AQHA &
APHA as a breeding stock stallion because of the old AQHA rule disallowing
cremello and perlinos. Tuff is nominated to the AQHA Incentive Fund Program
for the 2007 breeding season. Tuff checked out 87% foundation with the Foundation
Quarter Horse Foundation. Only 3% more and he could be registered there.
They recommended breeding him to mares at least 94% foundation blood to produce
90% foundation bred foals eligable for registation with FQHA. Tuff is a big
gentle fellow and passes his disposition on to his foals. Located in Ceres,
CA. E-mail for more information
or call 1-209 538-2533. |
