A homozygous dun dilute horse will not appear any different than a heterozygous dun dilute.

The stallion pictured here (Romeo Blue) has a dun dilution over a black coat, with the classic roan gene added in. The final effect is a grullo roan, and lightening of the dun factor striping.

Genetic discussion of dun dilute gene horses: Dun horses have a dilute body color with primitive striping and/or markings. They will show some degree of dun factoring, zebra stripes on legs, patching or barring over the shoulders, and sometimes cobwebbing on the face. The dorsal stripe should be prominent. A buckskin (or a heterozygous creme dilute horse) may look the same color as a dun, but will not have primitive dun markings. The homozygous dun dilute horse appears no different than the heterozygous dun dilute gene horse.  A dun dilute on black produces a grulla (grullo). Dun dilute on bay produces a typical yellow dun, and on a sorrel or chestnut, produces various hues of red dun.
